CV & Bio
James Patrick Cox (born 1993, Bath) lives and works in Frome, Somerset. His practice is concerned with the struggle of language, and takes the form of performances, text, spoken word, video, sound, and installations. James is interested in the process of getting information in and out of one’s head, and what is lost and gained in the process. The work also looks at the anxiety that comes from this process, and how anxiety is a generative energy to produce.
These interests stem from James’ experience of being dyslexic and is informed by his academic research into the connection between dyslexia and creativity. James is interested in the language used around neurodiversity, and writing research and engaging in projects that move conversations away from a reductive view of learning disabilities as purely disabilities, and towards them as vital human conditions, that help form the political, cultural, and aesthetic value systems of creative practitioners that greatly affects their creative practice and work.
